Hoxne Roman Hoard valued at nearly £2 million
Suffolk treasure hunter Eric Lawes stumbled across a cache of around 15,000 late fourth and fifth century Roman coins and around 200 items of silver tableware and jewellery in the village of Hoxne. The Hoxne Hoard is the largest collection of its kind to be discovered in the UK and was bought by the British Museum. Lawes received just under £2 million for the find.

METAL DETECTORISTS are finding 'hoards of treasure'
The culture minister, David Lammy, yesterday called metal detectorists "the unsung heroes of the UK's heritage".
He was commenting on the increase in important finds being made by metal detector users, often in tandem with Archaeologists.

Watching the Detectorists
The Ringlemere Cup found by Cliff Bradshaw was one of only a handful found in Europe. Dating from 1700-1500BC and made of beaten gold, it emphasised the intricate craftsmanship of the early Bronze Age.
